A2 SELT – GESE GRADE 3

Why do you need A2?

You must pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in at least CEFR level A2 in Speaking and Listening for Further Leave to Remain (visa extension).

UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires non-EEA nationals to pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in speaking and listening at level A2 after 2.5 years in the UK, in order to qualify for further leave to remain on the five-year partner or parent route to settlement.

B1 SELT – GESE GRADE 5

WHY DO YOU NEED B1?

You must pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in at least CEFR level B1 in Speaking and Listening for Indefinite Leave to Remain (to settle) or British Citizenship.

UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) requires non-EEA nationals to pass a Secure English Language Test (SELT) in speaking and listening at level B1 after 5 years in the UK or to apply for the British citizenship.

LIFE IN THE UK TEST PREPARATION

You need to take this test as part of the application and is mandatory to obtain British citizenship or settlement in the UK. The test consists of 24 questions on British traditions and customs with a duration of 45 minutes. Life in the UK tests applicants’ knowledge about British life, culture, history, law, constitutions and UK citizenship rights and responsibilities. 

Our research shows that most of the learners can give answers to 15 or 16 questions, but they not 18 or more required to pass the exam as they don’t read the textbook. Learners are not willing to read the textbook as they feel it is too much reading for them. We have summarised the book to 55 pages and have divided it to 5 to 6 classes. We practice the answer of the questions with learners, giving them more confidence to understand and prepare for the exam.  

Adult education is always challenging. To teach someone in their adult age is not easy especially, if learners come from different country, culture or society. Life in the UK is new world to them. If teacher can understand their culture and language, it would be easy to explain them using a hands-on approach and by using real life example from the learner’s cultures to understand the syllabus easily.

Our professional, learned and experienced teachers have vast knowledge of various world cultures, for example, Asian, Arabian or African country’s culture and society and they are willing to know different culture too! This knowledge and willingness will help them to explain and compare UK and their native cultures to understand life in the UK textbook syllabus. 

Our sole aim is to provide tools and techniques to develop the learners’ confidence and help them discover their ability to encourage them to learn. For example, we love story-based teaching rather than only reading the textbook.
